EXOGENOUS KETONES= BHB salts
What are exogenous ketones?
Exogenous ketones indicate an external intake of ketones, whereas endogenous ketones are developed internally by an extended low carb diet to the point where your body goes into a “ketogenic state” and making its own ketones.
What is Ketosis?
Ketosis is a metabolic state that encourages your body to use ketones as a form of energy instead of glucose. It’s as if you are trying to switch your car from using gas to diesel.
How can I encourage my body to make more KETONES?
Your body produces ketones as a result of carb deprivation, meaning when you go on a low carb diet. Once the body is deprived of carbs, the body switches from burning glucose to fat and as the liver breaks down the fatty acids, it secretes ketones which serve as energy.
Will Ketones help me lose weight?
In general, our body relies on glucose, which comes from carbs, as a fuel source. However, when we make the switch to KETONES, the liver starts breaking down fatty acids and secretes ketones as a result. Those ketones are then used to fuel the brain, muscle, heart, etc….. Hence, the reduction of carbs will eventually promote weight loss or at least fat loss, since fat is being broken down to produce fuel.
When should I use the Ketones (BHB salts)?
The ideal time of usage would be prior to physical activity, especially if you are doing high-intensity workouts. Long-distance runners or endurance athletes in general usually carb load before a workout session in order to load the body with glycogen, which acts as a fuel source. However, if a state of KETOSIS is desired then consuming carbs would defeat the purpose, hence BHB salts should be consumed with fats such as MCT oil, since adding that will increase the KETONES in the bloodstream.
Is it ok to use it if I am diabetic?
BHB salts can lower blood glucose levels; based on a study published in the Journal of Physiology ketone ester supplements can lower/control blood sugar levels by reducing spikes in sugar levels.
